Courtyard House

Bowden

Courtyard House adds to the inherent sense of discovery found in the approach and moving through of a mid-century home, tucked away on a quiet cul-de-sac in Bowden, Altrincham. Behind the property sits a beautiful, secluded garden that Courtyard House seeks to celebrate. The plan has been organised to offer glimpses of the garden when moving from the front door to the rear of the house. The main living spaces are opened up to one another whilst a feature double sided fireplace offers a sense of zoning to the house. Additions to the rear are rationalised around a sensory wildflower garden that can be invited into the kitchen through the use of a sliding door. These new structures are comprised of contemporary planed oak frames to offer the architectural language of garden structures, with one housing the new dining room and the other being an open side pergola, both with a symmetrical massing.  These new structures are contemporary planed oak frames to offer the architectural language of garden structure, with one housing the new dining room and the other being an open side pergola, both with a symmetrical massing. The additions sit atop a brick plinth which also accommodates further planters and steps down to the garden. On the first floor two well proportioned bedrooms, a family bathroom and primary suite with walk-in wardrobe and ensuite are introduced via the addition of two dormers installed within the existing roof. The dormers are finished to seamlessly blend with the roof covering.
